Organization: Toronto General Hospital
Department: Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) 
Reports To: Nurse Manager
Scale/Grade: A0 04
Salary Range:  $18.41 to $23.02

Hours: Various Hours, Shifts/Week - Shifts:  Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends - Must be available to work ALL SHIFTS as required
Status: Casual

The principal responsibilities of the WARD CLERK include: answering, screening and triaging telephone calls; receiving and assisting visitors coming in to be with family or friends; scheduling patients for tests, special procedures and/or urgent/emergency appointments; following established procedures to ensure the efficient flow of patient/patient appointments; providing routine clerical support services; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.


  • At minimum, completion of Grade 12 or recognized equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year related clerical experience
  • Experience using EPR, PHS, ORSOS an asset
  • Experience working in a Microsoft Office software environment
  • General knowledge of office practices, processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience working in a health care environment an asset
  • Accurate data entry skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Must be able to read and understand sort notes, brief forms and/or instructions
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
  • Effective organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to handle difficult patients/situations
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
