Based in Toronto, ERM’s Social Performance team helps businesses manage the social impacts, risks and opportunities associated with resource and infrastructure development by engaging directly with communities, governments, NGOs and international financial institutions.  Our approach emphasizes transparency, participation, local empowerment, and appropriate use of land and the built environment through considerate, locally appropriate design.  Services are delivered at project sites primarily in Latin America, Africa and Europe, and include:

  • Social assessment and management

  • Capacity building

  • Community development and livelihoods improvement

  • Regional and community planning

  • Housing and municipal and infrastructure design

  • Land acquisition and resettlement

  • Social closure and economic transition


The role and responsibilities are:

  • Project-related research and analysis

  • Report preparation for social impact assessments, baselines, housing studies, resettlement action plans, community development plans, and regional development plans

  • Physical planning for influx management, worker housing and resettlement

  • Design and implementation of stakeholder engagement programs

  • Work at project sites, initially about 20%



  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Planning, Environmental Studies, or related social sciences

  • Outstanding writing skills (English)

  • Strong verbal and presentation/facilitation skills (English)

  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or French

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Geographic Information Systems

    • InDesign, Photoshop and/or AutoCad

    • information management systems (databases)

  • Experience with Impact Assessments

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in multidisciplinary project teams

  • Creative problem solver with strong attention to detail

  • Effective time manager and multi-tasker able to effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment
