Position Summary:

Full time Maternity leave Replacement from Nov 2020 until May 2022.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Constitution Coordinator manages the constitution process to support and empower the TTA’s Member nations to develop their own unique constitutions and ultimately move closer to becoming fully self- governing under a modern treaty.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Write introductions to topics using a variety of information and research.
  • Schedule committee meetings with committee members, staff, and consultants.
  • Respond to action items determined at committee meetings.
  • Create agendas and distribute materials in advance of committee meetings.
  • Format, edit and update digital rolling draft of constitutions and distribute to team.
  • Liaise with legal counsel for legal reviews and interpret legal reviews to committees with help of governance advisor.
  • Manage project deliverables and budget
  • Work with Treaty Support Clerk, committee members and Communications Coordinator to plan/ host constitution community meetings and other types of community engagement
  • Prepare work reports
  • Maintain awareness of Treaty Negotiations
  • Responsible for other assigned Treaty Related Measures.
  • Support other areas of the TTA or assist with special projects as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the BC Treaty process, and of Provincial and Federal government.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous self-government and the constitution process.
  • Ability to build cooperative, trusting relationships with a variety of people from community members to government representatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information and speak publicly with clarity and impact.
  • Well-developed meeting facilitation skills.
  • Research skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Friendly, positive, responsive, professional and helpful.
  • Able to work independently as well as working within a collaborative team framework.
  • Respect for TTA Member Nations’ culture and protocols.

Training, Education, and Experience

  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in First Nations Studies, Aboriginal Law, Political Science or related field of study.
  • 3 years prior experience in a related field including project management experience
  • Experience working with an Indigenous community.
  • Valid class 5 B.C. driver’s license and a vehicle is required.
  • All employees are subject to a Criminal Record Check
