Job Description


The Software Developer will participate in all aspects of software development and maintenance within the IC Tech division. This position demands an excellent knowledge of software development practices and standards and the ability to work effectively as a member of a larger, multi-disciplinary team.

 

We currently have an opening for an intermediate developer working on mainframe tools: primarily PL1, SQL, DB2, JCL & CA7.

  

Accountabilities:  

Software Developers are responsible for the design and development of software solutions.

This role involves the following activities:

  • Design, develop, integrate, test, transition to production, and maintain software applications
  • Provide production support and application monitoring and tuning for applications
  • Participate in project planning
  • Provide input into the evolution of the software development environment and methods
  • Provide ongoing daily production support and remediation of business applications within the Individual Customer line of business – including the development and execution of test plans
  • Being part of the rotation for monitoring incidents
  • Contribute to the elimination of problems through permanent fixes including the identification of solutions, scoping the work, and executing the changes
  • Task management for themselves as well assisting other group members
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, legislative changes and changes required to optimize and streamline the existing application inventory.
  • Trouble shoot application problems, and maintain an inventory of expertise for identified problems
  • Complete development assignments as assigned through your team leader and negotiated with project teams
  • Create and/or update software development expertise and best practices
  • Liaise and provide consulting support for applications to project teams
  • Occasional after hours and weekend work will be required

  

Qualifications and Competencies: 

Degree or diploma in related discipline (Computer Science) or a combination of training and experience.

  • Training or knowledge and experience with:
    • Two or more of the following application development environment languages and tools: PL1, JCL, CICS, SQL, DB2, CA7, IMSDC/DB. Exposure to job scheduling and file transfer tools would also be an asset.
    • Having worked as a software developer in a mainframe environment would be an asset.
    • IT experience and the ability to understand and effectively work with legacy technologies and contribute as legacy applications evolve and are migrated to new platforms.
    • IT experience in analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, implementation and 24/7 production support would be an asset.
    • Strong customer service and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated initiative and creativity.
    • Understanding how to impact and influence and the ability to challenge
    • Software design methodologies and documentation tools
    • Software requirements analysis and design principles
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems
    • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a team, plan and organize your own work, communicate effectively in writing and verbally in person or remotely, initiative, team oriented leadership skills and attention to detail
