Position: Program Manager, Funded Initiatives, First Nations, Inuit (Level 6)
Location: Downtown Toronto (work from home until further notice)
Status: Full-Time

The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership) is the steward of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (the Strategy). Its work is guided by the Strategy, which was refreshed for 2019 to 2029 and will help drive measurable change for all Canadians affected by cancer and a future where fewer people get cancer, more people survive cancer and those living with the disease have a better quality of life.

The Partnership works with those on the front lines of cancer care, and people living with the disease, to make system-level changes that improve all aspects of the cancer continuum from prevention, screening and diagnosis through to treatment, clinical care, palliative care and survivorship. Partners include provincial and territorial governments, cancer agencies, health organizations, health-care professionals, people living with cancer and those who care for them, as well as First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, governments and organizations.

The Partnership’s work is guided by a commitment to reducing inequities in cancer care for underserviced people in Canada such as those living in rural and remote areas, those with low income and new immigrants, and addressing First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples-specific cancer control priorities and actions, outlined in the Strategy, reflecting Canada’s commitment to reconciliation.

The Strategic Partnerships Division leads engagement of partners in Canada’s health system and broader cancer community who are key to implementing practice and policy changes that deliver on the priorities of the 2019-2029 Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control . The division works with the Partnership’s program teams and system partners to develop work plans, monitor progress, and regularly assess new and evolving work to ensure it aligns with the eight priorities of the Strategy. The division also leads communications activities to strategically support and profile the work of the Partnership in driving forward the priorities of the Strategy across partners, stakeholders and the public. The division also oversees a special agenda of working alongside First Nations, Inuit and Métis to drive forward People-specific priorities and actions, outlined in the Strategy, by co-developing and implementing solutions to improving cancer care for those in these communities.

Overview of Role

The Program Manager, Funded Initiatives, First Nations, Inuit supports the Strategic Partnerships Division in carrying out projects and initiatives to achieve organizational priorities. Reporting to the Manager, First Nations, Inuit and Métis Engagement and Integration, the incumbent coordinates and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to the Partnership’s overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer on all Canadians.

Program Specific Responsibilities

• Provides direct support and leadership to partners with respect to advancing the Partnership’s funded initiatives,
• Leads relationships with funded partners to ensure delivery against the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control outcomes
• Actively engages funded partners to drive shared priorities that align with the Partnership’s goals and support the strategic priorities, and monitors partners’ progress against workplans and commitments for the Partnership’s outcomes
• Directly engages with funded partners to ensure delivery of the work against the funding agreement and work plans, including assessing the status of work and co-creating resolutions to challenges to ensure continued progress
• Works closely with the Partnership’s northern regional lead to directly contribute to the development of strategies in support of the delivery of work aligned to strategic outcomes and/or new initiatives. Ensures that the FNIM priorities are captured in all projects/programs
• Collaborates among peers to support shared experiences in driving action with partners toward the achievement of strategic priorities and other deliverables
• Works closely with others to share information in a timely manner to ensure financial matters are managed
• Actively identifies, forecasts, and assesses provincial/territorial, national, and international trends and advancements in cancer control, determines implications for Partnership, First Nations, Inuit and Métis partners, and shared priorities
• Collaborates across the Partnership to identify opportunities for linkages between First Nations, Inuit and Métis partner priorities and new or existing work at the Partnership
• Identifies areas of intersection and/or synergies between the Partnership and key external partners, and drives the strategic action needed to integrate these into the Partnership’s work
• Contributes to organization-wide initiatives to foster integration, high performance, program effectiveness, and impact toward the achievement of outcomes and goals
• Maintains knowledge of program content, status, updates, and findings
• Acts as a source of substantive information to internal and external partners
• Builds and develops trusted relationships with key decision makers at all levels and across all teams in the organization
• Assists the Director, and division teams, as required
• Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as required

Experience and Qualifications

• University Undergraduate Degree in Health Administration, Health Policy, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector
• Education and/or experience with First Nations, Inuit and Métis is a requirement
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)
• Proficient in Project Management, e.g. PMP designation would be an asset
• Bilingual in both English and French is an asset
