The Health Emergency Management Unit, Partnerships and Workforce Planning Branch in the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health is seeking a highly motivated, results-orientated individual to join our team as a Policy and Program Specialist.  We offer a challenging, innovative and supportive working environment with opportunities to provide leadership and provincial direction in health emergency management and business continuity.  You will work with colleagues in the Ministry, Regional Health Authorities, health organizations and other provincial government ministries in developing, implementing and evaluating emergency management and business continuity programs.
 
You will apply your analytical expertise to the assessment of a variety of complex issues, and your creativity and problem solving skills to the development and recommendation of options for addressing a range of health emergency management issues.  This position will challenge your research skills and you may be required to defend your analysis and recommendations to a wide range of individuals, groups and organizations.  The focus and type of issues you will address can include:

  • policy and program research, planning and evaluation, including identification / analysis of existing and emerging risks, threats, and vulnerabilities and their potential impact on the health system;
  • the application of trends and best practices in health emergency management to the health care system in Saskatchewan,  taking into account risk identification and management, prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery on an all-hazards basis.
  • business continuity leadership and planning for the ministry and the health sector;
  • performance monitoring, evaluation and quality assessment, and
  • related health research. 

As the successful candidate you will have:
  • Knowledge of theories and practices relating to emergency management, business continuity and risk management.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills to search for and assess information to develop materials and reports and make decisions and recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with a wide range of individuals, groups and organizations.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position will have been gained through the completion of a degree program in emergency management, business continuity management, and several years of experience working in those fields, including research, analysis and evaluation. Knowledge of health system operations and management would be an asset. Candidates with a combination of education and significant experience in emergency management in the health sector will be considered.
 
Please note that the position may require travel, primarily in the province, and participation in an on-call rotation.
