Day & Ross Freight

The Day & Ross Transportation Group is currently seeking a full-time Operations Manager - Dock for our Freight division in Brampton, ON.

We have a structured program called “Terminal Manager University” to provide operational leaders with customized training aimed at maximizing both people and process management. This program is key to our leadership and development strategy.
As an Operations Manager you are responsible to safely lead the operations team to meet stakeholder expectations with respect to service and productivity to responsibly manage to budgeted costs. This position is all about driving results, continuous improvement, problem solving and effective communication. All this will be achieved through having a solid, productive team.
To be successful in this role, you will effectively complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities):
  • Lead and manage a fast paced and high volume LTL Dock Operation.
  • Coaching and developing your team by having a positive attitude, collaborative working relationships, and providing clear direction to supervisors.
  • Ability to communicate clear expectations and hold team accountable recognizing the variable hours of a 24/7 operation
  • Understand our processes, policies and practices to make informed decisions - based on the safety, service, and productivity standards in the terminal
  • Proven experience getting things done by improving existing processes while meeting established deadlines
  • Improve the customer experience and control costs
  • Quickly and practically solve problems
  • Collaborates to provide high level, effective service by working with other terminals and departments
To be qualified for this role, we are looking for candidates that exhibit the following. Please ensure your resume clearly outlines the applicable skills you attribute.
  • 3-5 years transportation, trucking, terminal operational experience is necessary
  • Previous experience in dispatch and dock supervision/management
  • Experience managing a team of front line managers/supervisors, managing performance; Must be a hands on operator, trainer, coach and mentor
  • Experience managing department budget
  • Computer skills – accuracy, MS products, AS400, web based programs
  • Demonstrated customer relationship and strong conflict resolution skills
  • Able to work deadlines in high transactional environment, must have a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleagues
  • Results focused and demonstrated high level of initiative
  • Strong focus on Safety
  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (technical training / transportation / logistics / 3PL), or a combination of education and experience.
