Salary Range:  $46.92 to $58.65 per hour
Hours: 37.50 Hours/Week
Status: Temporary Full-Time (18 Months)

The Al and Malka Green Artists’ Health Centre is a facility in the Family and Community Medicine Program at Toronto Western Hospital. We are an interprofessional team that offers both medical and complementary care to professional and performing artists and to students and staff at post-secondary arts institutions. Our specialized practitioners focus on the specific health care issues and needs of artists, providing a holistic approach to health.

 The NURSE PRACTITIONER demonstrates autonomy while assuming and having sole accountability and the authority to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs and order a range of diagnostic tests for an outpatient client population of professional artists that require both primary care as well as unique occupational health assessments and treatments.  The principal responsibilities include: utilizing and demonstrating advanced knowledge and decision making skills to conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnose and manage the care of patients; planning and implementing strategies to promote health and prevent illness with individuals and groups.  The model of care also involves the Nurse Practitioner to support internal and external referral to a vast range of mainstream and alternative therapists with an additional requirement for some community outreach and case consultation.  In addition, as a member of UHN´s Nursing Leadership team, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering, coordinating and participating in educational and professional development activities/programs for artists within the hospital and community setting; leading health promotion activities; performing other related activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; performing quality improvement and administrative responsibilities; participating in policy and procedure development; performing research activities; performing cross functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Master’s Degree Program in Nursing or equivalent

  • Registered Nurse (EC) certification complete

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult or Primary Care certificate complete

  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support

  • Five (5) years of nursing experience, including one (1) year in an advanced role 

  • Experience in nursing research methodology

  • Ability to appreciate and understand the unique occupational challenges that artists face and that impact their health

  • Experience with program development

  • Ability and commitment to develop a collaborative practice with medical, allied health and alternative health practitioners

  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards

  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task

  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies

  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Program planning and evaluation methodology skills

  • Ability to utilize information technology
