The Environmental Protection Branch of the Ministry of Environment is seeking a multi-talented individual with an engineering or science background to deliver ministry programs, regulations, codes of practice, policies and protocols pertaining to solid waste management.  The headquarters for this position will be in Saskatoon.
 
As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will perform compliance inspections at landfill and transfer station facilities to ensure compliance with provincial regulations and permit conditions; review annual reports, and operating manuals; and evaluate environmental performance of these facilities relative to environmental quality standards for the province.
 
Our candidate of choice will bring knowledge of environmental protection processes associated with municipal and industrial solid waste management and decommissioning of solid waste management facilities.  The candidate will have knowledge and awareness of environmental and public safety issues associated with waste management including hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods.  Knowledge of engineering or science as it relates to landfills will also be required. The candidate will have the ability to clearly and accurately discuss environmental issues, policies and procedures to diverse groups (including peers) at a level appropriate to the audience, and concisely draft and compose written documents .  You will demonstrate leadership while work independently, and as part of a team or multi-disciplined staff groups to consistently achieve section branch and ministry goals in alignment with strategic and operational plans.
 
Typically the competencies required for this position will be obtained through a degree in Engineering or Natural or Physical Sciences combined with experience in solid waste management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  You will have demonstrated ability to adhere to the values of the Saskatchewan Public Service.  
 
Travel to remote locations of the province and working flexible hours are required of this position.
