Job Responsibilities 

  • Troubleshoot, identify, and repair heavy mining equipment, ancillary equipment such as shovels, drills, haul trucks, loaders, dozers and excavators used in open pit coal mining
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvements around processes and equipment maintenance 
  • Respond to mechanical issues happening in the field and maintenance shop
  • Commit to providing clear communication with the Maintenance Supervisor on projects going on 
  • Transport equipment needing maintenance into the service bay; work on the equipment and transport it back to the lot for pick up 

Candidate Qualifications 

  • Ability to work both day and night shifts in a truck shop as a heavy-duty mechanic 
  • Uncertified, however with 8000 hours experience in the trade
  • Mining experience is preferred
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to walk, stand and preform weight-bearing activities up to 11 hours daily on rough ground and climbing on and around equipment
  • Ability to driving up to 6 hours over a day and walk on uneven ground outdoors and climbing on/around equipment
  • Familiarity working with heavy duty mechanic tools including hand tools, air and impact tools (e.g., wrenches, drills) and sledge hammers
  • Comfortable working with materials handling equipment (e.g., hydraulic jacks and hoists, chains, overhead cranes, slings, come-a-longs), ladders, man-lifts, safety harness and lanyard, truck to access field
  • 3 days, 2 night field runners who operate 50% to 70% of the time outdoors, at the location on the property where the equipment needs maintenance
  • Demonstrated high attention to safety is a must
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions both walking and driving 
  • Employee bus transport is available from certain sites
