Retail Banking and Wealth Management serves millions of customers worldwide through our branch network, call centres, and digital and mobile banking. We also connect institutional and retail clients with investment opportunities through our Global Asset Management division.
 
A day in the life of a/an Head of Credit Cards & Unsecured Lending include the following:
 
The role holder will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Products and Propositions, RBWM and will be responsible for full profit and loss for credit card, debit card, and unsecured lending products across all brands. In addition they will have responsibility for driving the strategy for payments within HBCA. The team drives all product and proposition development, pricing, retention, service, communication and product management across the country bank.  
The role requires deep industry knowledge, strategic vision and strong leadership to manage the ongoing business as usual, and driving a material change programme to grow the overall revenue contribution to the business over the next 5 years.
 
During this period of transition, the jobholder will be expected to move the cards business from a closed architecture model to open market, define the target market, and substantially grow the card portfolio, retain good oversight, control and work with our risk partners to ensure that this is done within risk appetite.
The role also assumes overall responsibility for payments strategy to include the launch and commercialization of Apple Pay credit and debit, and define an overall contactless strategy that drives innovation for the consumer and value for the business.
The dynamics of the marketplace including digital, Fintech, as well as steep competition from the other top 5 banks, requires a visionary leader who can not only see today’s opportunities but is growing the business with a 5-year vision.
 
Principle Accountabilities:

  • Strategizes t he planned growth and profitability of the Cards & Unsecured lending portfolios
  • Develops, recommends and implements products or programs to ensure HSBC cards and unsecured products are highly competitive within the Canadian market place
  • Builds relationships across the bank, both at Group level as well as a local level to maximizing value for the Bank and the customer in this space
  • Strategizes, designs and executes the product pricing strategy, to ensure market competitive pricing and long-term portfolio profitability
  • Engages in close partnership with Marketing to strategize around marketing campaigns
  • Works in close collaboration with other key business stakeholders (e.g. Compliance, Risk, Finance) to ensure sound business practices are applied at all times, while at the same time challenging the status quo to ensure the business needs are met
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the distribution channels to assess product and process suitability and provides guidance to the team in developing recommendations to ensure respective policy and associated processes meets customer needs and is supportive of sustainable long-term profit
  • Provides leadership, strategic guidance and oversight to the product team on a daily basis
  • Works closely with Customer Value Management leadership team on complementing products (e.g. Mortgages, Wealth, Insurance) to ensure appropriate value added services are introduced to customers keeping with a long term vision and key strategic goals. 
  • Promotes and drives an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand
  • Safeguards operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards by assessing, testing and amending where required on an end-to-end basis
  • Adheres to and implement local and Group Level policies by liaising with all relevant stakeholders in a judicious manner

Qualifications

 
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:
  • Minimum of ten years proven and progressive retail credit experience or equivalent, including a minimum of four years proven senior management experience or equivalent
  • Demonstrated sales acumen by having successfully carried a senior sales position.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in business, related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong managerial, planning, analytical, statistical, decision making, presentation, communication and lateral thinking skills.
  • Proven track record of communicating effectively internally within the organization and with customer groups.
  • In-depth knowledge of the mortgage and retail credit industry including the applicable regulations and guidelines within.
  • Thorough understanding of customer segmentation and management techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
