Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the Director of Accounting this position will prepare a summary of financial information and management discussion comments on a monthly basis.
  • Supporting Operating Centre Managers by providing financial assistance for their operations as required.
  • Operational financial involvement where required to enforce or develop good financial processes.
  • Monthly detailed performance review to set critical financial focus for current month.
  • Monitor day-day volume and activities to provide direction on discretionary expenditure levels.
  • Review operating performance by job with Area Manager and Operations Manager to discuss future controls or process improvements.
  • Review (with Operations Manager) all non-job related costs.
  • Review (with Operations Manager) all non-job related labor costs and time sheets.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the Operational Administrator activities and controls.
  • Build an early warning procedure to predict future work volumes to allow operation management to react accordingly.
  • Preparation of Flash reports, OPR reports, 5 POP reports, other executive reports, Unit P&L, and Income Statements for all business lines in the Area on a monthly basis.
  • Assistance with bids, margins, RFI, RFP and setting billing rates as required.
  • Assistance in creating AFE for capital purchases.
  • Involved in the annual budget process by reviewing for reasonableness and providing feedback in the adherence to KPI standards.
  • Involved in the quarterly re-forecast process by reviewing for reasonableness and providing feedback.
  • Monitoring and reporting recovery plan details as required.
  • Account analysis as required to determine variances from standard processes.
  • Overall cost reviews including implementing processes to add additional controls or minimize cost impact.
  • Review area business unit monthly statements with area manager.
  • Assist area manager in developing plans for the financial 5 POP disciplines.
  • Management of the accounting team within the Area. This includes a matrix reporting structure with the Project Accountants, Job Cost Administrators, Branch Administrators, Junior Accountants and Intermediate Accountants.
  • Review monthly variance reports by Operating Centre and Area.
  • Succession planning for each position in the group.
  • Monitor and implement development plans for direct reports and ensure completed for all area finance personnel.
  • Understand and monitor the use of the JDE system and others to ensure that the approved processes are being followed by each service line.
  • Provide feedback to the service line for the development and maintenance of the JDE system as changes to the business environment evolve to ensure the JDE system will continue to work in an effective and efficient manner
  • Participate as needed in the testing, implementation and rollout of any system changes.
  • Develop, maintain, monitor and document the accounting processes used by service line.
  • Assist in the testing, implementation and rollout of any procedural changes by service line as required.
  • Understand and ensure compliance to the internal and C-sox controls required by service line in each of the operating centers.
  • Co-ordinate the month end activities within the Area to ensure an accurate and timely cutoff and statements.
  • Manage the payroll data capture and customer billing processes.
  • Manage the DSO for the area to keep within targets.
  • Review and approval of the cost and revenue accruals.
  • Where applicable, ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inventory records including physical inventory counts, inventory levels and turnover.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years directly related experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
  • Proven proficiency within a senior level accounting or finance function.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in commerce or business.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
