Facilities Maintenance Technician

Permanent Full Time

Nature of the Position
Under management’s direction, the Facilities Maintenance Technician determines and performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all facilities owned by the District of Sechelt; develops and implements preventative maintenance schedules and standards; and acts as an emergency contact during emergency situations as they relate to District facility operations.

Essential Competencies
Applicants must have Grade 12 (or equivalent); completion of a Facilities or Building Maintenance Program (or have an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience); general electric, plumbing and carpentry skills and experience; and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement.

Applicants must have knowledge of the Worker’s Compensation Act and Regulations; knowledge of general facility maintenance, repairs, products and procedures; and must demonstrate strong communication, problem solving, time management and project management skills. Applicants must exhibit initiative, responsibility, reliability, strong attention to detail and leadership.

Applicants must have hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of power and hand tools; the ability to exert, sustain and repeat physical and mental actions necessary to complete tasks; and work under conditions requiring strength, endurance and focused attention in all types of weather.

Applicants must have a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude; the ability to react quickly and remain calm in stressful situations; and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one–on-one or in a team environment.

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain RCMP Reliability Security Clearance.

Preferred Competencies
Preferred competencies include facility maintenance course as well as trade completion in either or more than one of the following: electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry. The role would benefit from superior millwork skills such as working with tools and woodworking, and general welding and fabricating skills.
Working Conditions

This is a unionized position within the BCGEU, open to both male and female applicants. Salary for the position is Grid Level 7, $28.90 - $32.11 per hour. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week between Monday and Friday. This position involves shiftwork, including weekends, and will assist with snow and ice removal from November to March.
