Job Description

 

 

We are currently accepting applications for District Coordinator – Graduation Success (Secondary)  

 

The District Coordinator Graduation Success (Secondary) reports to the District Principal of Aboriginal Education and will function as a member of an interdisciplinary team charged with providing fluid and flexible supports to school teams across the district.  The Coordinator (Secondary) will facilitate capacity building in schools by assisting the District in actualizing the goals of the strategic plan and the NLPS Learning Framework, with a specific focus on Indigenous student success.

 




Job Duties:

As an instructional leader and change initiator, working with a highly skilled and dynamic team of coordinators, the candidate will:

  • Plan, develop and facilitate workshops on current topics related to creating equity for all students with specific attention to Indigenous students
  • Provide in-service to the District and to individual schools on effective research and instructional practice that leads to improved results for all learners, with a specific focus on Indigenous learners
  • Collaborate with secondary school and District staffs to develop and implement strategic models of learning support and/or interventions that keep students on a path to graduation
  • Assist secondary classroom teachers to create learning environments where each learner, especially Indigenous learners,
    • experience high and motivating expectations for their learning
    • are confident and have a strong sense of belonging
  • Assist the District with creating an evidence-rich environment designed to improve interventions that support student success
  • Join coordinator colleagues on a journey of reconciliation and help define what that means at the classroom and school level.



Employment Requirements

  • Professional Certification: Certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch 
  • Education and Training:  Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Master’s in Education or related field would be an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to improve equity of opportunities for all learners, especially Indigenous learners
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate empowering learning experiences for all learners
  • Has created learning environments where each learner experiences high and motivating expectations for their learning.
  • Has created learning environments where learners are confident and have a profound sense of belonging to their classroom and school
  • Has incorporated Indigenous knowledge and understanding into their teaching practice and into their own learning journey
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effects of colonization and its impact on teaching and learning in today’s schools
  • Excellent communication skills both written and interpersonal
  • Is confident and competent in analyzing student data and taking action on the evidence

 

The term of this assignment may be renewed for up to three school years and will be confirmed prior to the Spring staffing process for the following school year.
