Reporting to the Director, Organizational Improvement, you will research, develop and implement force options policies, procedures, training programs and oversight processes in accordance with recognized and accepted standards and practices; deliver and facilitate learning; provide subject matter expertise to learners, trainers, managers and judicial hearings; develop and maintain a provincial team of force options trainers and build professional relationships with other public safety partners and jurisdictions.
The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of corrections practices, procedures and standards;

  • Subject matter knowledge and experience in force options law, theory and practice in a correctional environment;

  • Extensive experience delivering force options training;

  • Knowledge of policy development processes; curriculum design; training delivery and adult education theories and methodologies;

  • The ability to design and implement effective evaluation and audit processes.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience combined with several years of experience working in a supervisory position in a secure custody correctional facility and extensive experience designing and delivering force options training programs. The ideal candidate would already be qualified to train and certify force options trainers. 
The successful candidate must become a qualified master trainer (ability to deliver train the trainer programs) of force options skills within the probationary period to maintain employment.  Proof of CPR and First Aid training and a valid driver's license is required.  Frequent travel is expected .
