Job Description

The District of Oak Bay invites applications from qualified persons for the exempt full-time, permanent position of Deputy Director of Corporate Services.

Oak Bay is a picturesque oceanfront community within the Greater Victoria area, only a short commute to downtown Victoria. While offering all the amenities of a large metropolitan urban center, Oak Bay has succeeded in maintaining a sense of community and charm. This progressive organization is committed to citizen engagement and customer service with a strong sense of pride in the connection between the municipality and the 18,000+ residents.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative and organizational support to Council, its committees and corporate administration more generally. This position oversees the preparation of agendas, bylaws and other legal documents; acting as the Records Management and Freedom of Information (FOI) Coordinator; and performing the other duties of the Corporate Officer. The incumbent works under minimal supervision, so independent use of discretionary judgment, exceptional communication and organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure is essential.

Education and experience requirements include an undergraduate degree in Public Administration or a related degree, plus a minimum of three years prior job related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable knowledge of parliamentary procedure, the Local Government Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Records Management practices is required.

A competitive salary and benefits package is offered as well as a supportive work environment and continued career and professional development opportunities. An employer of choice, the District of Oak Bay is committed to fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability and teamwork.

We would like to hear from you if you are qualified and thrive on the challenges this position has to offer. Please apply, in confidence, by February 2, 2018 to:
