Permanent Full Time Position

If you are customer service driven, have a passion for helping the public and enjoy working on a team, the District of Saanich has an opportunity for you. Saanich Public Works is seeking a qualified Chargehand for the Solid Waste Services Section to lead the leaf collection program, maintain the cart program, perform computer and office tasks, collect household garbage and organics and, assess roadside dumping. This will include performing technical work, manual work and supervision of a crew of skilled and unskilled workers and equipment operators when required.

Our ideal candidate will have three years of experience in waste collection; demonstrated ability to schedule work and lead staff; familiarity with the safe operation and maintenance of all collection equipment; and proficiency with Microsoft Office computer programs.

Requirements include at least one year of experience directing the work of others or introductory supervisory skills training; completion of Microsoft Excel and Word courses, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (word processing and spreadsheets); Occupational First Aid Level I Certification; valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement; experience driving right hand drive automated collection equipment; completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $36.40 per hour and an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca .
