Reports to: Chair, Computational Biology & Medicine Program
Pay Range: $31.56 - $39.45 per hour (Commensurate with experience and consistent with the UHN Compensation Policy)
Hours: 35 per week; 9:00am to 5:00pm; Monday to Friday
Status: Permanent Full-time

The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM), University Health Network (UHN), is the largest cancer centre in Canada, providing more patient visits and involving more cancer doctors and specialists than any other oncology centres in Canada. The PM Computational Biology and Medicine Program (CBMP) is home to Scientists and Clinicians focused on developing computational methods for fully exploiting cancer data to advance basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. Within CBMP, innovative computational methods and scientific software are being developed to investigate the biological processes involved in carcinogenesis, cancer evolution and response to therapies.

We are looking for a Bioinformatics Analyst to help develop a new bioinformatics recommendation platform at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and further develop our scientific software.

Building on the expertise of the current development team, the Bioinformatics Analyst’s main roles will include:

  • Working with the current development team to develop new methods for extracting and interpreting text from bioinformatics publications.
  • Contribute to development of an operating model for an AI-driven recommendation system.
  • Contribute to development of decision tree visualization using react.js and D3
  • Attend and contribute to weekly strategy meetings. Help inform the scope and direction of development.
  • Work with the development team to ensure the recommendation platform is computationally efficient, maintainable, easily deployable, well-documented, efficient, and user-friendly.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree bioinformatics, computational biology or computer sciences preferred  
  • At minimum, 1 year practical and related experience in software development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with natural language processing
  • Experience with tensorflow
  • Experience with javascript front-end and back-end frameworks
  • Proficiency in Python and R
  • Knowledge of software development best practices such as unit testing and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment.
  • Ability to manage multiple project simultaneously and adapt to changing requirements/timelines
  • Proficiency in Java, C++, Bash is an asset
  • Experience in commercial software development is an asset
  • Experience in software education (ex. Software Carpentry) is an asset
