Scale: F0:04
Salary: $44.50 - $55.63 (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy)
Hours: 37.5 Hours/Week
Status: Temporary Full-time (approximately 22 months)

The Advanced Practice Nurse Educator (APNE) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary leadership team and demonstrates a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and maintaining the academic practice environment at UHN. The competencies focus on education and staff development, inter-professional collaboration, scholarly/research activity, and leadership/change management. The position will require expertise in the care and management of the complex medical patient with a focus on Geriatrics in General Internal Medicine. The APNE uses best practice in education to assess learning needs, develop, design, deliver and evaluate educational programs. The APNE collaborates with others to promote enhanced development and delivery of quality nursing education internally and externally. The APNE contributes to the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application and integration of knowledge through research and scholarly work. The APNE leads in the creation of a preferred future for nursing education and professional practice.


  • Completion of a Masters degree in Nursing or Education
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including learning needs assessment, educational program planning, development, and evaluation
  • Three (3) years experience in General Internal Medicine, Acute Care of Elderly (ACE) Unit and Cardiology Acute Care Unit
  • Experience in High Acuity Nursing
  • Completion of specialty-specific certification program in Geriatrics  preferred
  • Current certificate of licensure/registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • Current membership in related professional interest group or association preferred
  • Excellent leadership, time management, presentation skills
  • Able to adapt, build trust, coach, collaborate, facilitate change and promote continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to promote learner accountability and to create an environment conducive to learning
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Able to use information technology
