Located next to downtown Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000, is home to Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet. The community boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

The Financial Services Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a regular, full-time Accounting Coordinator position. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, you will be responsible for performing intermediate-level accounting functions related to payables, receivables, receipts and disbursements, property taxes, operating work orders and general ledger maintenance. In addition to preparing financial statements, working papers and statutory reports, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the property database.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma in accounting (2 years) and three years progressive experience in a municipal or similar environment. Other preferred qualifications include:

  • ability to understand, apply, and provide instruction in the methods and procedures of accounting, land management systems, mapping, and GIS;
  • experience using the Tempest database (including the property tax and land management systems);
  • advanced-level spreadsheet and accounting software skills (Great Plains preferred); and
  • exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Salary: $35.02 – $37.80 hourly plus benefits
