The City of Edmonton is continuing to evolve and grow in response to the needs of our citizens. We are redefining how we do finance in a municipal setting while fiscally guiding our organization to a higher standard of excellence. Within the Financial and Corporate Services Department, you will be part of the Business Financial Analytics team supporting the financial needs of the Waste Services Utility as they strive to deliver waste management solutions that are cost effective, environmentally sustainable and customer focused. Working within a team environment, you will use your financial expertise to provide sound financial advice and perform financial analytics.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare monthly performance reporting and analyze results against budget and forecasts to identify variances, year-end costs, trends and determine historical costs

  • Perform financial analysis to assist in the development of operating and/or capital budget proposals and in the preparation of the Utility’s annual business plan and rate filing

  • Prepare budgets, perform budget consolidations and update and maintain information in the City’s budgeting system

  • Support the senior accountants in providing advice and guidance for operations

  • Ensure adherence of financial practices to City policies and procedures

  • Review and recommend process changes to reduce errors, streamline process and manage risk

  • Participate in a constructive and collaborative manner with other departments and stakeholders within the City in the analysis of financial activities





Qualifications

:
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA), preferred, or an accounting-related Business degree

  • 3 years of progressively responsible accounting experience preferably including financial planning, budgeting and performing financial analytics

  • Strong Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, skills are required. Familiarity with Google Sheets, Docs and Slides is an asset

  • Experience within the Utility industry would be an asset

  • Technical proficiency with a major financial and analytical software system is required. Experience with SAP, COBS, or PeopleSoft is an asset

  • Excellent customer service, organization, critical thinking, time management and prioritization skills are required, as is the ability to work independently as well as on a team

  • The ability to take initiative, think logically, problem solve independently, and complete detailed work with a high degree of accuracy is required

  • Sound written and oral communication skills along with the aptitude to maintain professional working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel is required

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per work week. Monday - Friday


Salary: $40.517 - $50.817 (Hourly); $71,380.82 - $89,621.98 (Annually)
